The Stunning Lake Ledro
Lake Ledro, nestled at 650 m a.s.l. among forested peaks and alpine pastures, is regarded as one of the clearest lakes in Trentino: underwater visibility often exceeds 15 m. Its turquoise waters warm to 24 °C in summer, making the lake a paradise for swimming, sailing, wind‑surfing, canoeing and fishing.
The shoreline circuit—almost 10 km—is a flat, family‑friendly loop that takes less than an hour on foot and is equally popular with runners and gravel‑cyclists. Most of the route hugs the water on a lakeside track; only the stretch from Molina to Pur uses the quiet local road. At Mezzolago an underpass avoids the main road and lets you explore the little village with its flower‑decked balconies.
Things to Do around Lake Ledro
Water‑sports enthusiasts head to Pieve, home of the Lake Ledro Sailing Club, which hosts international regattas—such as the Women’s Match Race—and runs summer sailing courses for children aged 8–15. On Besta Beach at Molina, the Storo‑Ledro Canoe & Kayak Association hires gear and offers lessons and guided trips. For a romantic outing you can rent pedalos, canoes or rowing boats at the Tarolli rentals in Pieve and Molina, even returning the craft on the opposite shore.
Anglers find ideal conditions, with trout, perch, tench, pike, bleak and the occasional eel; a fishing permit is required and easily obtained locally. Culture‑lovers can step back in time at the Lake Ledro Pile‑Dwelling Museum. Completely refurbished in 2019, it reconstructs a Bronze‑Age stilt‑house village dating back 4,000 years and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage serial site.
The Beaches of Lake Ledro
There are four main public beaches—plus a fifth dog‑friendly area—each with manicured grass, toilets and snack bars:
Pieve di Ledro Beach
On the north‑west shore: three separate areas with beach‑volley courts, mini‑golf, playground, large car park and a waterfront strip packed with cafés and pizzerias.
Molina Beach (Besta)
The largest and sunniest, featuring a vast green lawn, beach‑volley court, tennis courts, services and a lakeside bar—perfect for sunbathing from dawn till dusk.
Mezzolago Beach
On the northern shore, steps from the village: shaded grass with picnic tables, children’s play area and a floating pontoon for diving into crystal‑clear water.
Pur Beach
The quietest spot, on the south shore: wide grassy meadow with playground, free parking, bar and pizzeria nearby. A section is dog friendly, where pets can swim; bag dispensers for waste are provided along the lakeside path.
