In the center of Verona, a few steps from the Roman Theater and the Ponte Pietra, the of Castel San Pietro Funicular rises above the rooftops of the city, offering a new and unique view of the Adige River and Verona. It reaches Castel San Pietro and its panoramic terrace through a short 159-meter journey with a 55-meter elevation difference, allowing everyone to enjoy a beautiful glimpse of Verona.
The Castel San Pietro Funicular is not only an opportunity not to be missed for tourists and locals to enjoy an unforgettable panorama but also a piece of Verona's history. Designed in 1939 and inaugurated a couple of years later, it was initially reserved for students of the Cignaroli Academy of Fine Arts, which was located in Castel San Pietro. In 1943, it was opened to the public, but the war interrupted this particular service. It remained unused until 2011 when the restoration project was initiated. Since 1975, the departure station has been the headquarters of the Verona Laboratory Theater. Finally, in 2017, the new funicular was inaugurated!
